The possibility has been looking good for the past 4 days, with a vigorous upper level trough projected to move through on Tuesday. Some showers will be possible ahead of the associated front Monday night into Tuesday morning. As surface temperatures drop to below freezing, there is a slight chance that rain could actually change to freezing rain briefly Tuesday morning between 5am and 7am. Any freezing precipitation will change quickly to rain as temperatures rise through the upper 30's and into the 40's by noontime. Moisture will be lacking, and showers will be scattered and light. Total water equivalent for Tuesday is looking like around .2". As cold air advection kicks in, temperatures will fall back steadily behind the front despite cloudiness, and left over showers behind the front could change to snow after midnight on Wednesday. The GFS forecast sounding for KEEN at 6z (2am) Wednesday shows 1000-850mb thicknesses down to 1092 which supports snow. The possibility of a few snow showers will continue through Wednesday morning. Total water equivalent through noon Wednesday will be around an addition tenth of an inch. Cannot rule out the possibility of a coating of snow in the higher elevations (>1000ft) Wednesday morning. Lower elevations will definitely not see accumulation though.

For those of you interested in the ski forecast, snow accumulation will be possible in the mountains of northern NY, VT and NH through Wednesday. A few spots could receive up to 4 inches of new snow by the end of the week.

Otherwise, a chilly week on tap, with highs between 45 and 60 and lows 20 to 35.
